My 4-year-old son spends hours pouring over the pictures and stories in this book. Richard Scarry knows how to delight children in his funny drawings and silly stories.
Richard Scary has been a family friend (through his books) to my children and now to my grandchildren. This book is helping my littlest granddaughter reinforce her reading skills, she is 7.
Fairly typical of Richard Scarry's books, it is fun to browse for kids of ages 2-6. The book itself is very sturdy, and will definitely last long, even though it gets used pretty often.
All Richard Scarry books are gentle and engaging with so much detail that the child notices new things with each reading. He loves them both. I sent this to my 3-year-old grandson; I had already given him the Richard Scarry Word Book. Can't say enough good things. BUT I just ordered from Amazon sellers two used (but almost perfect condition) copies of the First Picture Dictionary Ever, which is out of print, alas. The Dictionary was the favorite of my two daughters, and now I have a copy to give each family. I think ages 1 year (with supervision) to as old as 8, but 3 to 6 really love these books. They will bring the book to you to read, and then they will teach themselves to read.
My 2 year old son loves this book. He wants to read it at least twice a day, and it always holds his attention until the end. He loves looking for all of the little details in the pictures- for instance, he goes through and shows me all of the pictures that have fire hydrants in them, or all of the characters who are eating apples, etc. Worth every penny and then some.
